Spring Breakers Say Warmer is Better in Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach (PRWEB) December 16, 2010

The annual tradition of Spring Break is about vacationing with friends, meeting new people, partying and finding a place to warm up after enduring a cold winter on a college campus. Finding that warm place in the sun seems to be the primary reason early bookings for Spring Break 2011 in Daytona Beach are on the rise.

According to Scott Edwards of the Daytona Beach Welcome Center, Spring Break in Daytona Beach was up about 30 percent last year. “More students are booking earlier this year, and our warmer weather is a big reason why. Students are telling us they can party anywhere, but they want to do it in warm weather,” Edwards stated.

For the past several years, Daytona Beach and Panama City have been the two biggest Spring Break destinations in Florida for college students. Last year, the busiest dates for Spring Break were March 6 through March 26. According to historic figures published by Weather Underground, daytime high temperatures never reached 70 degrees in Panama City. The mercury hit 70 degrees or higher on 15 of 21 days during the same period in Daytona Beach.

Geography explains the temperature difference: Daytona Beach is located on the Atlantic side of the state in central Florida. Panama City is positioned on the gulf in the northwest corner of the state.

Two of Daytona’s most popular Spring Break hotels, the Desert Inn and the Hawaiian Inn are also reporting an increase in early bookings.

“It’s more than just our warm weather causing the boom in early reservations, “ said Michel Gignac with the Hawaiian Inn. “The increased violence in Mexico is causing a lot of students to think twice about spending Spring break South of the border.”

Great post! I?m just starting out in community management/marketing media and trying to learn how to do it well – resources like this article are incredibly helpful. As our company is based in the US, it?s all a bit new to us. The example above is something that I worry about as well, how to show your own genuine enthusiasm and share the fact that your product is useful in that case
