Walking Food Tours of Old Towne Orange: Local, Social Food Adventures in Orange County

Orange, California (PRWEB) August 09, 2011

Food tours have been popping up around the country and lucky for us, now there’s one in Old Towne Orange, California. Close to Disneyland and easily accessible from anywhere in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas, Old Towne Orange Walking Food Tours provides an easy way to take a break for three hours and enjoy a street-level tour with an insider’s knowledge of the best places to eat, drink and shop in the city. Old Towne Orange is a historical district best known for its antiques shopping and growing restaurant community, and is consistently voted “Best Downtown” in the Orange County Register’s annual survey.

“Old Towne is the perfect spot for a food tour because of its community feel and its restaurant friendly environment,” said Deanna, one of the owners, who also serves as catering director for Chapman University. “Our customers are a mix of local residents, as well as people from South Orange County, Los Angeles and visitors to Anaheim. We are working hard to market our tours to the hotel concierge in Anaheim and LA, as this is one of the best kept secrets around.”

There are three different food tours to choose from, all of which are geared towards foodies and travelers alike. Owners of the restaurants and shops are often available to engage one-on-one with the tour participants, giving it a home town, personal feel. A great way to spend “face time” with friends, one of the tour participants commented, “I really, really enjoyed the walking food tour last Saturday! For me it is more memorable than just meeting a friend for lunch or going to a movie. It is a special event.”

The tours run every weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The Orange Sampler Tour meets at the 1927 Beaux Arts Building which houses the Starbucks/Wells Fargo and takes you on a stroll down historic Glassell and Chapman Streets, and samples a diverse array of cuisines from Cuban, to Italian, to Retro Americana.

The growing trend of “farm to table” is the highlight of the Old Towne Orange Farmer’s Market Food & Culture Tour, which visits the innovative Orange Home Grown Farmers Market at the historic Villa Park Orchards Packing House and concludes with cultural stops and food samplings from restaurants popular with the locals. You’ll love the grinders, sweet potato fries, specialty tacos and more.

And once a month the Old Towne Orange ArtWalk Food Tour visits the many local art venues in the area, which represent a wide array of artistic styles ranging from the Art of California and the American Southwest, studio watercolor and hand blown glass, to contemporary fine art and a Center for Creativity by an internationally acclaimed illustrator. Ample time is given to browse the collections in the galleries and sample specialty food items from them and local eateries. Samples include Mediterranean cuisine, Italian gelato and imported gourmet offerings.

The food samples on each tour are enough so that for most people lunch or dinner afterwards is not necessary. Tour sizes are limited to 15, making it a great social activity with friends and new people you meet during the tour. The walking covers about 1-1/4 miles over flat and comfortably roomy sidewalks.

Tours must be pre-booked and often sell out. The tickets range from $ 54 to $ 59. For more information on booking a tour, please go to OrangeFoodTours.com or book your ticket on Zerve at 800-979-3370.

Old Towne Orange Walking Food Tours was created by two Italian sisters out of a love for their city and a desire to expose more people to the charm, ambiance and culinary point of view that it has to offer. With backgrounds in the food industry and marketing communications, they’re always on the search for new cuisines and love watching others have ” Ah-ha!” moments.
